Hey everyone, I wanted to share a little update on my writing journey with Neverseek: Book 1. For the past few days, I’ve been absolutely consumed by a project that’s both a detour and a massive leap forward. Even though I have 18 solid chapters drafted—which I’m super proud of—I felt this magnetic pull to pause and go back. My gut was telling me that to do this story justice, I needed to dig deeper into the soil of the world itself.

So, I’ve embarked on an epic quest of my own: building a comprehensive codex for the Neverseek universe. My tool of choice is NotebookLM, and let me tell you, it has been a complete game-changer! I started by breaking up my original, messy world-building documents into smaller, more focused entries. What began as a simple organization task has blossomed into something massive. I’m currently at 63 individual documents and counting, and I’ve had this wild realization: a proper codex is basically a book in its own right!

I’m cataloging everything from the intricate histories of warring factions and the specific lineage of my main characters, to the subtle rules of the magic system and the cultural nuances of a tiny, remote village that might only appear for a few pages. It’s incredibly detailed work, but it feels so necessary.

This deep dive means I’ll no longer have to stop my writing flow to scramble for a detail I wrote down weeks ago. No more wondering, “Wait, what was that character’s family name?” or “What color were their eyes again?” For anyone writing with a brain that has a million tabs open at once (hello, ADHD!), having a centralized, searchable “source of truth” feels like a superpower.

It’s moments like these that remind me writing a book isn’t just about putting words on a page in a straight line. It’s about building a world that feels lived-in and real, both for me and for future readers. This codex is the foundation, and I know that once I return to drafting Chapter 19, the story will be stronger, richer, and more alive than ever before. I can’t wait to bring it all together!

Have a Wonderful Labor Day,
Joshua Caringer
